Education and Employment Background

Dr. Vladimir Ladizhansky completed his M.Sc. and PhD in Physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. He completed postdoctoral training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining the University of Guelph’s Department of Physics, where he is currently a full professor and director of the NMR Centre.

Research Themes

Ladizhansky’s research laboratory focuses on understanding at a molecular level how proteins perform their functions. We are investigating a number of proteins that associate with cell membranes and are responsible for cell signaling and membrane transport. Our primary tool is solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) since it can provide the atomic-level information on protein structure and dynamics. Our research program spans a wide range of areas from quantum mechanics of spin interactions and developing new NMR techniques, to molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics.
