Accreditation: Your Path to Becoming a Professional Engineer
Since 1965, Engineers Canada (EC) has been accrediting top engineering programs across Canada. This process, led by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), ensures that engineering graduates meet the academic standards needed to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
Each program is carefully evaluated at the request of the university, with approval from the regulatory body in the province, like Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in Ontario. This accreditation gives you the confidence that the program is recognized and respected across the country, opening the door to professional opportunities.
The University of Guelph's engineering programs have been accredited for several decades, with various disciplines achieving accreditation at different times.
Agricultural Engineering: Accredited from 1973 to 1995
Biological, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering: Accredited since the early 1970s and 1990s
Biomedical and Computer Engineering: Accredited since 2014
Engineering Systems and Computing: Accredited since 1994
Mechanical Engineering: Accredited since 2013
Food Engineering: Accredited from 1993 to 2000
These accredited programs ensure that students graduate with the qualifications needed for professional engineering careers. Our new Mechatronics Engineering major is carefully designed to meet the same rigorous standards and is on track for accreditation after its first graduating class—providing students with the same level of excellence and preparation for professional licensure.
