Engineering Prof Appointed Vice-President of PEO
Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) appointed Prof. Bob Dony, School of Engineering, as its new vice-president on April 25. The PEO governs the engineering profession in Ontario.
“I was very pleased with the support and confidence of my peers on council in giving me the opportunity to serve the engineering profession in this capacity on behalf of the people of Ontario,” says Dony. “The position allows me to take a greater leadership role in working to strengthen the relationship between the academic world and the regulation of the engineering profession.”
Dony already serves as councillor-at-large on PEO’s council, having been first elected in 2012 and then re-elected for a second two-year term in 2014.
He praised the School of Engineering for its strong leadership role in the organization. Engineering professor emeritus Walter Bilanski was elected as president of PEO four times, the most of any president in the organization’s 93-year history.
“The degree to which such work is recognized and supported by the school is unique in the province and is of real benefit to our students as they enter the profession on graduation,” says Dony.
