Engineering deans remember Dec. 6, 1989 — and celebrate the survivors

“Have you heard?” “Are you safe?” “But how could that happen?”

It is astonishing how many of my female friends and colleagues remember the moments from Dec. 6, 1989 and our first reactions on hearing that 14 females (almost all engineering students) had been shot at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal.

The School of Engineering celebrated its community of alumni and friends at the 10th Annual Honours & Awards Gala, recognizing the excellence they bring to engineering. The celebration took place in the Adams Atrium of the Thornbrough Building and welcomed more than 100 attendees including alumni, friends, family, faculty, students, and industry partners.

Engineering Professor Dr. John R. Donald Receives Designation of Fellow

University of Guelph Associate Professor Dr. John R. Donald received the designation of Fellow from the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA-ACEG) in June of 2020.  This award honours “individuals who have demonstrated noteworthy service to engineering education, engineering leadership, or engineering design education through their work with CEEA-ACEG”. John is one of the inaugural 21 engineering education professionals from across Canada selected for this award.
