The Doody Family Chair donated the Undergraduate Research Assistant (URA) Fund for Women in Engineering (WIE). We decided to find out about the impact of these positions in supporting current students to gain invaluable research experience this past summer.
Guelph Engineering Leadership Program gathered together for their fourth workshop this school year on "Embedding Social Justice in Engineering"!
On September 15, leaders from organizations and student clubs who organize Women in STEM initiatives gathered for dinner and conversations. Leaders from CEPS Outreach, Creative Encounters, Canadian Association for Girls in Science, SOE, GWiCS, WiSE & Let’s Talk Science came to participate in this event.
Since launching in September 2014 at the United Nations, HeForShe has been the subject of more than 2 billion conversations on social media, with off-line activities reaching every corner of the globe. On March 22nd, Diana and the University of Guelph community came together to recognize the importance of gender equity, equality and the power of resilience.
On October 14th, Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Club and Creative Encounters (CE) hosted 63 young, energetic attendees for Go ENG Girl 2023.
Guelph Women in Computer Science and Creative Encounters team hosted and engaged with 66 attendees on Saturday, February 18th. Attendees participated in Coding in Scratch, UX experience and unplugged coding challenges.
College Royal took place on March 18th and 19th. It is a 100% student-run and organized event. The University of Guelph opens its doors to the general public in a campus-wide open house that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
On Saturday, Feb 3, GWiCS (Guelph Women in Computer Science) and Creative Encounters were excited to welcome 109 female and non-binary attendees for our annual Go CODE Girl event. GWiCS members and Creative Encounters created a Python coding activity, an unplugged game design challenge and a Decoding networking game. This year we had both morning and afternoon sessions so we could accommodate the demand. Everyone had a great day with over 30+ volunteers and organizers present at the event.
The 2023 RISE conference returned once again this past September. This conference aims to bring together female and female-identifying engineers & scientists.
Supported 20 students, staff, faculty from UofG to attend (some presented at Summit). Organization and community building for the graduate students. Particularly impactful for the graduate students who had attended, who are largely international M.Eng. students who don’t get other opportunities for conference attendance. Idea: through AA&D – establish scholarships for international M.Eng. students (idea suggested by one of the grad student attendees). Read more.
On January 21, Doody Family Women in Engineering supported the UG executive members of Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) to attend the National Conference hosted in Toronto. The conference brings together delegates from all across Canada to share ideas and become inspired over the course of a whole day dedicated to professional and personal growth.
