The University of Guelph is committed to providing competitive faculty salaries comparable with other Ontario institutions. Additional details on the compensation system for faculty can be found in Article 40 of the Collective Agreement. 

In the event of a discrepancy between this page and the Collective Agreement, the Collective Agreement shall be considered the final authority

Salary Ranges

Starting salaries are negotiated between the Director and the candidate at the time of appointment. Each appointment type has a minimum and maximum salary that determines the amount an employee can be paid in a particular position. The annualized salary grid for 2017 - 2021 is as follows:

College Research Professors

College Lecturers (part-time)

Effective May 1, 2019, the hourly maximum for a College Lecturer will increase to $45.00 and remain there for the duration of this agreement. Minimum hourly rates will increase by an additional $0.75 (May 1, 2019), $1.00 (May 1, 2020) and $1.30 (May 1, 2021). 

Salary Adjustments

Salary adjustments of UGFA Unit 2 members take effect on May 1 of each year. These adjustments are based on the agreed settlement between the University and UGFA are outlined in detail in the Collective Agreement. These salary adjustments are made up of four distinct components, applied in the following order:

  • a Cost of Living Increase (usually expressed as a percentage of salary);
  • a Merit Increase (if any);
  • Change to the Minimum Salary Floor (if any).

Other Compensation

  • Overload Teaching: Teaching above the normal workload assigned to a full-time member is compensated at the College Lecturer rate. A faculty member may teach a maximum of one overload course per academic year. Such teaching requires the approval of the Dean.
