The Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics will be an active participant in the Second Annual Canadian Agricultural Policy Conference in Ottawa on January 11-13. The theme of this year’s conference is Growing Forward in a Volatile Environment and will explore the ways in which agricultural policy can address the impact of changing agri-food environments on markets, consumers and producers. Recently retired FARE faculty member Karl Meilke, Director of the Canadian Agricultural Trade Policy Research Network, served on the conference organizing committee.

May 19 - OMAFRA Spring Executive Forum in Guelph, Ontario "Productivity in the Agri-food Complex: Where we stand, how we compare and impact on competitiveness?"
Researchers in the College of Management and Economics and the Ontario Agricultural College have received $200,000 from OMAFRA’s New Directions Research Program to study the competitiveness of Ontario’s food industry.
“Understanding competitiveness requires a mix of economics, management and public policy expertise that our team is uniquely qualified to provide for this important project,” says principal investigator Erna van Duren, a professor in the Department of Business.
