Agricultural Economics Prof Named Fellow of Prestigious Association

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Alfons Weersink, professor in OAC’s Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics for having been named a fellow in the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA).

Each year, AAEA recognizes a small group of professionals as fellows who have made outstanding continuous contributions to the profession of agricultural or applied economics. Achievements may be in research, teaching, extension, administration, or other contributions to public or private sector decision-making.

Dr. Weersink is an agricultural economist and explores the economic impacts of new technology and government policy on agricultural structure. His research is often interdisciplinary and extends across all species of livestock animals and crops, allowing his work to easily transition to newly developing areas of concern in agriculture.

The fellowship award is AAEA's most prestigious honor.

“Dr. Weersink is one of the world’s top minds in agricultural and applied economics,” says OAC’s acting dean, Dr. John Cranfield. “This is an incredible honour for Dr. Weersink and speaks to the impact of his research and teaching.”

The Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) is a not-for-profit association serving the professional interests of members working in agricultural and broadly related fields of applied economics.

Members of the AAEA are employed by academic or government institutions, as well as in industry and not-for-profit organizations, and engage in a variety of teaching, research, and outreach activities. Their work addresses a broad range of topics such as the economics of agriculture, international and rural development, resources and the environment, food and consumer issues, and agribusiness.
