Assistantships, Scholarships and Awards

Students are encouraged to apply to various external granting bodies including, Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Scholarships (OGS). Other areas to search include: StudentAwards.com and Scholarships Canada.

Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST)

The Ontario government provides these awards, through the University of Guelph, on a competitive basis to graduate students who have achieved at least 'A-' in the last two years of full-time study, and have demonstrated research ability or potential, communication skills and leadership skills. This award is tenable with other awards up to a total of $10,000 per year. The student cannot hold an Ontario Graduate Scholarship during the same period of study. The award is valued at $5,000. Eligible graduate students are invited to apply by the Graduate Coordinator of the department.

Harold H. Draper Graduate Prize

In honour of Professor Draper, Chair of the Department of Nutritional Sciences from 1975 to 1985, a $100 prize may be given to the graduate student in the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences who is judged to have contributed most effectively to the HHNS Graduate Seminar Series, during the previous year. No application is necessary.

CFUW Scholarship for Women in Graduate Studies in Nutritional Sciences

The Canadian Federation of University Women, Guelph, offers this award of $1000 to a female student who is enrolled in a graduate program offered by the Dept. of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences and is working on a thesis project relevant to human nutrition. The successful applicant will display academic excellence, research activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, and extra-curricular activities related to nutrition and health or women's issues. Qualifying applicants will be invited to apply and will be asked to complete the application form provided at the time of the invitation.
