This course is comprised of an asynchronous microlearning course with access starting September 30th, 2024 and a synchronous virtual session October 23, 2024 from 10 am - 12 pm.
In our tech-driven world, harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now indispensable for individuals and professionals across diverse fields. This blended-learning course, led by the University of Guelph's Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI), is thoughtfully designed to demystify AI, and equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to leverage its transformative capabilities. You will gain hands-on experience and tips for using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT.
This course will be delivered in two parts:
Part I: CARE About AI – Introducing Artificial Intelligence (Asynchronous)
[Access from September 30, 2024; To be completed by October 21, 2024]
This asynchronous microlearning course allows participants to better understand terminology and high-level concepts regarding AI. Completing this course will enable a more thoughtful use of AI tools and provide a starting point for developing a further understanding of how AI works and the issues surrounding it. The course consists of 6 modules including Introducing Artificial Intelligence, Exploring Machine Learning, Deep Learning, AI in Action, Ethics and Responsible AI and What's Next? Approximately 2 hours in length - intended to be consumed in bite size chunks. Participants will have three weeks to complete the course, with access provided starting on October 31st.
Part II: Using Generative AI (Synchronous)
[Virtual Session on October 23, 2024 from 10 am - 12 pm]
During this live virtual session, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with ChatGPT to enhance your productivity within the university context. Practical applications that will be discussed include:
- Web Development and Automation: Create websites or automate tasks in Excel using macros.
- Content Generation: Generate new content such as emails, articles, or ad text.
- Editing and Proofreading: Review and improve the readability of existing text.
- Tone Adjustment: More academic or simplifying it for a lower reading level.
- Text Compression: Shorten text to a specific word count.
- Idea Generation: Generate topic ideas for various purposes. Definitions: Create plausible definitions for words or phrases.
- Wordplay: Generate titles, create acronyms, or write in specific poetic styles.
- Committee Organization: Organize a review committee and distribute items for review while adhering to specific constraints.
- Image Manipulation: Edit images by changing the background or adding new elements to the image with text prompts - Using Adobe Photoshop (Beta).
By the end of the course, you will not only have a solid understanding of AI principles but also a practical toolkit of AI applications tailored to your unique goals and aspirations. Join us on this exciting exploration of AI's potential and unlock new horizons of productivity and innovation.
Important Note: To participate in the synchronous session scheduled for October 23rd, you must first complete the asynchronous online module by October 21st. Access to the asynchronous session will be granted to you starting from September 30th. Once you have successfully finished the online module, you will receive a Zoom link for the live virtual session.
