The Firearms Act, 1998
Intent:
To restrict and control firearms on University owned, leased, or managed property.
Definition:
firearm
any firearm regulated by the Firearms Act.
Policy:
- All University-owned firearms shall be registered with the Director of Security Services and with the Canadian Firearms Centre.
- The possession of firearms on University owned, leased, or managed property, and in University vehicles is prohibited without approval from the Director of Security Services.
- The secure storage of a firearm and ammunition shall be approved by the Director of Security Services.
- No person shall be permitted to possess or acquire and handle or use a firearm for a University-sanctioned purpose unless they have passed the Canadian Firearms Safety Test, and are licensed in accordance with the Firearms Act.
Guidelines:
A Possession and Acquisition Licence is a licence under the Firearms Act to buy, receive as a gift or otherwise take ownership of firearms and to keep them in your possession. Firearms licence applications and registration forms are available from police stations and post offices or by calling 1-800-731-4000.
