  1. Do I have to have my academic documents translated if they’re not in English?

    If your documents are in a language other than English, you will need to have your documents translated for them to be considered.

  2. After submitting my documents which are asked by university, in how many days it can be verified and updated?

    If you have submitted your documents to Admission Services, please don’t submit duplicates. We receive a high volume of documents and are process them in the order in which they’re received. Processing times vary throughout the application cycle.

    If you are sending documents through the mail, please consider that there may be postal service delays preventing your documents from reaching us. Send @uofgadmission a direct message if you think your documents have been misplaced.

  3. When would I receive my decisions for masters in Fall 2022?

  4. Within how many days I can expect a reply from a professor for my mail about thesis-based course?

    We recommend that you reach out to your program counsellor if you have not heard back from a prof.

  5. As a transfer student, are support letters good to submit even if you meet the average?

    Support letters are your opportunity to tell us why you want to transfer to U of G. Submitting a support letter is optional and does not guarantee admission.

    If your average is below the minimum admission requirements, your support letter should address your previous academic performance and explain the steps you’ve taken to ensure future academic success.

  6. When is the deadline for an online application for PhD starting September 2022?

  7. How would the process of transferring to another university look like?

    Visit the admissions website to register for an info session on how to transfer to U of G OR watch a previously recorded presentation, transfer to U of G from another institution, and transfer programs within U of G.

    Keep in mind that the deadline to apply to transfer to U of G for Winter 2022 is November 15th, 2021.

  8. Do you offer early admission? When would offers go out?

    Our first official round of offers begins in January, 2022. A small number of offers may go out to exceptional applicants in December, 2021.

  9. Are high school grades a factor when applying as an external university transfer?

    Transfer applicants must submit official transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended including:

    • high school (including summer school)
    • university
    • college
    • night school
    • online courses taken at a provincially approved high school or learning centre
    • an accredited private school or organization officially recognized or authorized as an institution of learning
  10. For computer science, what is the area of applications and are there limitations to it?

    The Area of Application is a set of 8 courses from another discipline. The benefit of the area of application is that you get to apply your computer science learnings to a field that interests you. There are over 40 different disciplines to choose from. Learn more.

  11. What do classes typically look like (length, frequency, labs, tutorials, seminars)?

    You can expect each course to have 3 hours of lecture time per week. The timing of labs and seminars will vary from program to program.

    We recommend having a look at our IGTV for interviews with current students that talk about what their course structure is like.

  12. On OUAC15 for uni transfers, do I request my transcript be sent after fall or winter semester?

    This depends on what semester you are applying to transfer in. Please visit https://admission.uoguelph.ca/exttransfer for a breakdown of application and document submission deadlines. Email transferinfo@uoguelph.ca if you still have questions.

Course Selection Fall 2021

  1. Some course timings or instructors are TBD, when will these sections be updated?

    Courses and/or course components that show TBD in the “Times” or “Meeting Information” columns in WebAdvisor are asynchronous courses. They do not meet at a specific time. Please see the 2021 course delivery webpage for more information. In terms of instructors listed as TBD, we are continually updating information as we receive it from the department.

  2. Where do we go after in person classes as virtual classes take place 10 minutes after in person class?

    Wi-fi is available across campus.

  3. I thought ENGL*2270 would run in F21. Not seeing any sections, when is it supposed to run?

    Please contact the department that organizes the course for information about when the course is expected to be offered.

  4. Any advice for international students?

  5. I’m still waiting to be enrolled in a nondegree semester. Will I be able to take classes from my prior degree?

    Please contact your Program Counsellor for advice on repeating courses.

  6. If a required course that isn’t offered next semester is full, what other options are there?

    Please continue to monitor WebAdvisor as more seats may be added or other students may drop the course. When searching for courses, we recommend using the Basic Search or the Catalog Listing view in the Advanced Search to ensure you see the most up-to-date information.

  7. If there are no seats available, can students still register and have it on zoom?

    Students can only register in the course if there are seats still available. Please continue to monitor WebAdvisor because space may become available if another student drops the course.

  8. Why are so many courses still online as opposed to in person?

    A significant number of courses (about 60 per cent) at all year levels will be offered face-to-face or will include in-person components such as labs or tutorials. By continuing to offer some courses remotely, we can reduce classroom densities and create safe learning spaces.

  9. How do I declare a minor? What are the requirements for one?

    Some degree programs allow the declaration of the minor, normally 5.00 credits in a specific area. Check the academic calendar and seek advice at your Program Counselling Office.

  10. For CJPP co-op, what electives are recommended other than the required?

  11. Could you let me know the requirements for your admissions for MSc biotech?

  12. Some classes for first year say there’s only 1 seat. Is that accurate?

    Selection didn’t start. More seats will be added over the course selection period. When searching for courses, we recommend using the Basic Search or the Catalog Listing view in the Advanced Search to ensure you see the most up-to-date information.

  13. If I don’t pay the registration fee yet, would I prohibited from registering for courses?

    As long as you do not have an outstanding balance on your account, you can still register for courses up until the deadline to pay the registration deposit (August 13). If you have not paid the registration deposit by August 13, you will be removed from your courses.

  14. Will the register button illuminate on the day of the selection?

    Yes, the Register button will display once your course selection window opens as long as you have planned your course sections. Please read the Registering for Courses help guide for more details or watch the Registering for Courses video tutorial.

  15. To be in the course do you have to apply ASAP?

    We recommend that you select your courses as soon as possible after your course selection window opens. Students who do not enrol by August 2 may find that their desired or required course sections are full.

  16. New sections being added: if a preferred time for a course is added, can we switch?

    Yes, you can switch course sections any time before September 17 if there are seats available in the new section. For instructions on changing sections, watch the “Dropping Courses and Changing Sections” video tutorial.

  17. When can first years sign up for courses?

    New undergraduate and diploma students on the Guelph campus can start selecting courses at 8 a.m. EDT on July 15. If you were granted transfer credits upon admission, you may be able to select courses earlier depending on the number of credits granted. Please check the course selection windows. In order for varsity student-athletes to participate in practices and competitions, they had access to begin selecting courses on July 6.

  18. If I am abroad and I can’t come due to COVID, can I take the courses online?

    Some courses are offered remotely. Seek advice from your Program Counsellor if your required courses are not.

  19. Can you go back to the old one?

    WebAdvisor course selection has been replaced by Student Planning, and we cannot return to the old version as it is no longer supported by the software company.

  20. What about Masters in agriculture for international students. How much % is required to get admit in grad…

  21. When do I declare a minor?

    A minor is not required unless you are in the BAS program which requires two minors to graduate. Seek advice from your Program Counsellor.

  22. What’s the difference between asynchronous courses and distance education courses?

    Distance Education courses are types of asynchronous courses in that they offer a flexible online learning experience with no scheduled meeting times. Distance Education courses may use different tools and resources than other asynchronous courses.

  23. Is it a bad idea to take 3 credits in your first semester of university?

    Unless you are an Engineering, DVM, associate diploma or graduate student, you may only take 2.50 credits in your first semester.

  24. Are you planning on adding more 4th year CJPP required class spots?

  25. All the courses for fall are given or will some courses be uploaded later?

    All of the courses that are being offered in Fall 2021 are posted on WebAdvisor.

  26. Will there be more spots in BIOM3090? 3rd year selection hasn’t even opened and it’s full.

    Students with enough credits completed and in progress to be considered third year were allowed to enrol on July 8th and 9th. Please contact the department to see if additional space will be added.

  27. Is it possible to print out just the calendar format?

    No, there is not a way to print your schedule in the timetable format. You can print your course information in a list using the “Print” button about the timetable.

  28. I’ve not received my visa to travel for Fall term; does this issue have an affect on course selection?

    You may wish to seek advice from International Student Experience.

  29. Where can we find previous course outlines?

    Course outlines are usually housed on the webpage of the department offering the course.

  30. Can we take minors in 1st year?

    Yes, if your degree program allows you to. Check the academic calendar and seek advice from yourProgram Counsellor.

  31. Where can we check for exam schedules?

    The final exam schedule will be posted on WebAdvisor on August 25.

  32. What time is course selection available at?

    Guelph or Ridgetown course selection is at 8 a.m. EDT, while Guelph-Humber is at 9 a.m. EDT.

  33. For Arts and Sciences, is it 100% mandatory to take 4 science and 4 arts courses exactly?

    Please check your program requirements in the academic calendar and seek advice from your Program Counsellor if you have any questions.

  34. I’m still waiting for some courses to be added for fall 2021. Should I wait for new sections to be added or not?

    If your course selection window has opened, do not wait. If you are not seeing any course sections available for courses that you were hoping to take, please contact the department offering the course for more information.

  35. How many mandatory classes do you select each year so you graduate with your degree?

    Please refer to the academic calendar or the My Progress page on WebAdvisor to see your program requirements.

  36. How do we find out if a section will be added to a course that is filled up?

    Contact the department offering the course.

  37. If the course you want is restricted access, when will restrictions be lifted?

    It depends on the course. Please check the department’s website for more information or contact them, if needed. Restrictions on first-year courses will be lifted at noon on August 3. The lifting of other restrictions is determined by the department offering the course.

  38. Is it known yet if classes will be offered online still?

  39. How come most courses only have 1 section? A lot of my top choice courses overlap.

    Many courses have more than one section. Seek advice at your Program Counselling Office if you need guidance when selecting courses.

  40. Do you have to sign up to pick courses? Or do you just register on the day of?

    You just need to register in your planned course section when it is your assigned start day.

  41. Do we pick our courses just for first year or are we planning them for our whole time?

    You can only register for courses in Fall 2021 at this time. You can plan your courses for future semesters at any time, for as far away as six years in the future. Watch the Creating a Plan video tutorial for more information.

  42. How do I know I’m picking the right courses for my program?

  47. Is there someone I could book a meeting with regarding course planning?

    Contact your Program Counselling Office for an appointment. Most offices are only available by email during the course selection period due to high volume demand.

  48. Will there be online options for in-person classes?

    Read more about course delivery methods. If a course has only one section and it is in-person, you need to be on campus to attend.

  49. When do you plan on having graduation ceremonies for the graduating classes of 2020/2021?

  50. Can I take 2 courses even if they overlap in schedule?

    No. Please select another course to remove the conflict.

  51. When will we find out what residence we’re getting?

    Please visit Student Housing Services for information about residence.

  52. I’ve planned my winter semester but no schedule times show up. Can I register for both fall and winter semester on the 15th?

    You will only be registering for fall courses during this course selection period. Course selection for the winter semester will not begin until November; the winter schedule will be posted about two weeks before winter course selection begins.

  53. Is there a tutorial on course selection?

    Yes, there are video tutorials, help guides, and FAQs available at the Student Planning website.

  54. When do we need to select our courses by?

    The deadline to add Fall 2021 courses is September 17. We recommend selecting your courses as soon as possible after your course selection window opens so that you will get into your desired sections.

  55. Where do I see the electives?

    You can check the My Progress page on WebAdvisor or the academic calendar for more information on what electives you can take for your program.

  56. Where do I go to pick my courses?

  57. Where can I see what times all of the classes are?

  58. Are we planning the courses for just the fall semester or full year? Also registration is the 16?

    You will only be selecting fall semester courses during this course selection period. Course selection for the winter semester will not begin until November. Please see the course selection windows page to determine when you can start selecting courses based on your number of credits.

  59. One of my classes says there’s no time slot. Will this time slot be assigned later?

    If there are no sections posted on WebAdvisor for the course for Fall 2021, this means that the course is not being offered in the Fall. If sections are posted but the course and/or course component show TBD in the “Times” or “Meeting Information” columns in WebAdvisor, this means that it is an asynchronous course. Asynchronous courses do not meet at a specific time. More information about course delivery formats.

  60. Are you planning on adding more 4th year CJPP required class spots?

  64. Hello, I am a first year student starting this fall. I wish to take the “replacement course” physics class because I did not take 4U physics. Do you happen to know what the course code is for that class? The PHYS-1020 says it is only offered during summer, so I do not think it is that one.

    BSc students who do not have Grade 12 Physics should select PHYS*1300 Fundamentals of Physics. For more information about what courses you should take in your first semester, visit the Registration Guide for New Students.

  65. For the course picking right now to plan for it. What does it mean when it says a course has no course selection when u want to add it to your schedule

    If a course does not have any sections, it means that it is not being offered in the Fall 2021 semester.

I have a question about UNIV Courses, I’m going into second year and a have a UNIV course in my course plan that I want to take… are all UNIV courses no matter the level light course work with no exam? Or is it only the first year seminar UNIV courses that are like that, for example the one I have in my plan is UNIV2200
