U of G business students place first at human resources case competition

Two teams of U of G business students travelled to Toronto over the weekend for the 14th annual Human Resources Industry Conference, hosted by the Human Resources Student Association at the Ted Rogers School of Management.

The conference brings together distinguished industry leaders and students from across Canada’s top business schools. In addition to networking with industry and attending workshops, student delegates also compete in the conference’s Organizational Behaviour Case Competition (OBCC).

U of G business students ring opening bell at TSX

Third-year University of Guelph Management, Economics and Finance students had the chance to ring the opening bell at TSX, after winning the fourth annual Richardson GMP case competition.

The competition is part of the Strategy of Mergers and Acquisitions (ECON*3360) course at U of G and is sponsored by the Canadian wealth-management firm Richardson GMP.

Another impressive podium finish for Guelph business students at undergraduate finance competition

U of G business students from the Guelph Student Investment Council (GSIC) attended Battle on Bay 2019 over the weekend, an undergraduate finance competition hosted by the Ryerson University Finance Society.

Attending the competition for the first time, University of Guelph’s GSIC students had an impressive showing that saw them place third overall, taking home a $1,000 prize.

U of G business students find podium while hosting Central Canada’s largest business competition

Over 500 business students from across 11 universities came to the University of Guelph last weekend to compete in JDC Central, a business competition that is considered one of the largest undergraduate business case competitions in Canada.

The competition, often referred to as the ‘Business Olympics’, brings student delegates together to compete in academic presentations, parliamentary-style debates, sports and social activities. This year’s competition, hosted at the University of Guelph, celebrated JDCC’s 10th anniversary.

College of Business and Economics, U of G, mourns the passing of John F. Wood

Over the holidays, it was with sadness that we learned of the passing of local entrepreneur and U of G donor John F. Wood. He passed away on December 25th, 2018 surrounded by his loving family in Guelph, Ontario.

John enjoyed a successful business career that spanned more than five decades, including senior leadership roles in real estate development and appliance manufacturing. He was a strong supporter of business education and a generous philanthropist.

3rd annual accounting research symposium brings together faculty from across the world

The 3rd annual Qualitative Accounting Research Symposium took place last week at the University of Guelph, a research initiative organized by the college’s Department of Management. The annual symposium brings together researchers and accounting faculty from across the world – including CBE graduate students and faculty - who share an interest in qualitative accounting research from diverse methodological and theoretical perspectives.
