Sergio Morales represents Ward 9 in Barrie, Ontario as a city councillor, one of Barrie's fastest-growing areas. He began his political involvement while at the University of Guelph as an undergraduate student, writing op-ed columns for the Barrie Examiner and serving as an intern and constituency assistant for his Barrie Member of Provincial Parliament and Member of Parliament. In 2014, Sergio ran for Barrie City Council, while still an undergraduate student in U of G's Bachelor of Commerce Real Estate & Housing program and was successfully elected from a field of three candidates, being the only candidate in the Barrie election to defeat an incumbent. In 2018, Sergio was the only candidate to be acclaimed, and became the first Barrie Ward 9 councillor to serve two terms.
