The University of Guelph’s College of Business and Economics are pleased to announce the hiring of Norm O’Reilly as Professor and Assistant Dean of their Executive Programs . Recognized as one of the leading scholars in the business of sports, O’Reilly has authored or co-authored eight books, 14 case studies in the Harvard/Stanford series, and more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles.
O’Reilly was previously the Richard P. and Joan S. Fox Professor of Business and Chair of the Department of Sports Administration at Ohio University’s College of Business. During his tenure the university’s programs were consistently ranked amongst the best in the world, according to Sports Business International’s annual rankings. Their master of sports administration program was named the top sport business graduate program globally for four consecutive years (2014-2018).
In addition to his work in academia, O’Reilly works closely with the sports management industry. In 2013, he was recognized as one of the Five to Watch in sport management in Canada by the Globe and Mail and is a lifetime Research Fellow of the North American Society for Sport Management. His expertise has been sought by media including CTV, CCTV, Bloomberg Business, TSN, Sportsnet and others. In 2011, he was the recipient of the University of Ottawa’s Media Excellence Award.

O’Reilly holds a PhD in Management from the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University, an MBA from the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, an MA in Sports Administration from the University of Ottawa, and a B.Sc. (Kinesiology) from the University of Waterloo. He has also taught at the University of Ottawa, Syracuse University, Stanford University, Laurentian University, and the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University.
The University of Guelph’s Executive Programs provide relevant, leadership-focused programs for working professionals in a variety of industries.
