4th year, Management, Minor in Human Resources, and a certificate in Spanish Language and Culture

When I came to the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics in 2019, I knew that I had to make the most out of my four years here. Fast forward three years and one pandemic later, I am now heading into my last year with the same mindset and same goals.
Halfway through my second year, I switched my major and am now in the Management minor within the BComm program. With Human Resources continuing to be my passion, I decided that I wanted to declare a Human Resources minor and started taking classes accordingly. I am also striving to achieve my certificate in Spanish Language and Culture, which I will complete by this fall. The minor consists of ten courses and the certificate consist of five, I declared my minor by setting up an appointment with a BComm program counsellor and the process was very easy and stress-free, and I can go into my last year knowing that I have all the courses I need.
Adding a minor and certificate to my degree has enhanced my university experience beyond what I could have ever imagined. My minor is setting me up for success to achieve my CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) after I graduate, and has helped me significantly in my summer jobs that were focused on human resources. My Spanish certificate has already opened many doors to a whole new world of communication and opportunity within and outside U of G and Lang. Through my education and learning outside of school from fluent speakers, I am close to achieving fluency and am now able to empathize and communicate with an incredible community. I have utilized my language skill in every job I have ever worked in including my current position and am in the planning stage of starting my own foundation to help Latin American countries in need.
I highly recommend adding a minor and/or a certificate to your degree. It enhances your academic experience tremendously and helps you develop both professionally and personally. Effective time management has been extremely important throughout my degree and at times hard to achieve, but I am so grateful for everything I have been able to achieve at Lang. My experience here has been incredible so far, and I am so excited to see what my last year has in store for me!
