Dr. Holtermans's Accomplishments
Dr. Holtermans is a real estate finance scholar whose research focuses on the financial implications of climate change risk, energy efficiency, sustainability in real estate and financial markets, and return drivers in commercial real estate. His interdisciplinary approach integrates urban and financial economics with sustainability, planning, geography, and policy, aiming to increase our understanding of the role of the built environment within these complex issues.
His most recent publication, "Climate Risk and Commercial Mortgage Delinquency [1]," examines the impact of climate-related disasters on commercial mortgage performance. By analyzing data from Hurricanes Harvey and Sandy, the study reveals elevated delinquency rates in affected areas and highlights the role of FEMA floodplain maps in mitigating risk. This research provides valuable insights into how climate risks influence the commercial real estate market and underscores the importance of incorporating climate risk information in financial decision-making.
