WEBINAR: How the Transmission of Alpha-Synuclein Elicits Parkinson’s Disease Pathologies February 24 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Free Morgan Stykel, PhD Candidate in MCB, will give a presentation about her research for the Parkinson’s Society of Southwestern Ontario.

Joseph Radford, M.Sc. candidate in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will defend his thesis on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 1:30 p.m..  His co-advisors are Dr. Susan Glasauer and Dr. Lucy Mutharia. Thesis Title:  "Influence of temperature cycling and ethanol amendment on arsenic mobility in a contaminated northern wetland".

Victoria Petruccelli, M.Sc. candidate in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will defend her thesis on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 9:30 a.m.  Her co-advisors are Dr. Anthony Clarke and Dr. Chris Whitfield. Thesis Title:  "Expression of peptidoglycan O-Acetyltransferase A from Neisseria gonorrhoeae".

Iqra Razzaq, M.Sc. candidate in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will defend her thesis on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1:30 p.m.  Her advisor is Dr. Rebecca Shapiro.   Thesis Title:  "Analyzing the roles of the essential gene TRA1 and the novel extracellular vesicle EVP1 in regulating morphogenesis and the antifungal drug resistance response in the opportunistic fungal pathogen Candida albicans".

Join the S2BN for an evening panel discussion providing perspective on enhancing equity, diversity and inclusiveness (EDI) in STEM training. During this session, panelists will focus on key experiences promoting EDI as well as highlight the importance of diversity in STEM.   

Hosted by RBC, the Build Your Brand Workshop is a 1-hour session to help students build awareness of their brand, and learn how to use their brand effectively throughout their career. Students will learn the essentials of what makes a great personal brand, first impression, professional presence, and elevator pitch.

Layla Alibabai, M.Sc. candidate in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will defend her thesis on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 1:30 p.m..  Her advisor is Dr. Marc Coppolino.  Thesis Title: "STIP1 a novel SNARE complex interactor, and its role in tumour cell migration and invasion". Matthew Carswell, M.Sc. candidate in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will defend his thesis on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 9:30 a.m..  His advisor is Dr. Mike Emes. Thesis Title:  "A regulatory role for 14-3-3 proteins in the starch biosynthetic pathway of Zea mays".

Greg MacNeill, Ph.D. candidate in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will defend his thesis on Wednesday, January 6, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. His co-advisors are Dr. Mike Emes and Dr. Ian Tetlow.  Thesis Title:  "Post-translational regulation of starch branching enzyme 2.2 from Arabidopsis thaliana".

Sarah Wismer, M.Sc. candidate in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, will defend her thesis on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.. Her advisor is Dr. Nina Jones.  Thesis Title: "Investigation of the role of Nck in breast cancer cell invasion and invadopodia formation and its interaction with ADAM19".
