Updated Website Content - CBS Grad Studies
Dear graduate students,
Our CBS website recently went through a makeover and some content related to graduate studies has migrated, so we’re writing to make sure you know where to go for College-level info related to graduate studies!
We invite you to visit our college website https://www.uoguelph.ca/cbs/ and click to the Graduate Studies menu.
One of the major highlights within the Graduate Studies menu is our page on Professional and Career Skills Development. In this page, you can learn about professional development opportunities within CBS (e.g., Grad Chats Series, SCRIBE writers’ program, Careers in Biology, and Graduate Student Symposium) and at UofG (e.g., GradPathways, Library workshops, career advising, Skills for Research Impact, Beyond the Professoriate). We also have a database of job portals that frequently post jobs in biology, so you might want to check that out!
Other content of relevance to current students:
- How to fund your studies: this page explains how the minimum stipend works in CBS and what happens if students receive different scenarios of scholarships. In addition, this page contains our CBS Scholarship Handbook, which was designed to help CBS students find funding they are eligible for, including major and minor scholarships and bursaries.
- Student Wellness and Experience: this page summarizes all the services available to graduate students, from counselling to managing conflicts with landlords, chatting about your identity in a safe space, troubleshooting technical difficulties with your computer, booking a medical check-up, and much more! You can download a brochure to keep handy and find the service that can hep you with your needs. We also list other options for student organizations and opportunities for community involvement within CBS.
- Careers in Biology and Graduate Student Symposium: these two staples of the grad life in CBS have their own page. Take a look at the 2024 schedule to get a sense of what to expect! Keep your eyes peels for a call for organizing committee members later in the Fall.
- SCRIBE program: read more about our grad student-powered scicomm initiative! We sent out a call for new writers last week and you still have time to apply. You can read all our wonderful SCRIBE stories in our SCRIBE Research Highlights.
Are there resources or information that as a graduate student you would like to see on the website? Please share your thoughts with us! Content would have to be related to graduate studies at the college level (we wouldn't like to duplicate too much info from departments or other units on campus).
Cheers,
Virginia, on behalf of the ADR office
