MCB faculty member Dr. Wei Zhang named Canadian Institute for Applied Research (CIFAR) Azrieli Global Scholar for 2019-21
Dr. Wei Zhang, MCB professor, is among 14 international researchers named as Canadian Institute for Applied Research (CIFAR) Azrieli Global Scholars for 2019-21. This honour will provide Dr. Zhang with $100,000 in funding over the next two years, which he plans to invest in state-of-the-art laborartory infrastructure. The CIFAR Azrieli Global Program also connects Dr. Zhang with a network of highly experienced and accomplished senior researchers, who will provide mentorship and guidance.
Flavonoids are the next big thing in marijuana research
MCB's Dr. Tariq Akhtar's research lab, in collaboration with Dr. Steven Rothstein and Dr. Jennifer Geddes-McAlister were featured recently in the Toronto Star for their work on Cannflavin A and Cannflavin B, molecules with potential for pain relief. Dr. Emma Allen-Vercoe awarded Tier 1 Canada Research Chair
MCB's Dr. Emma Allen-Vercoe is to receive a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair title in Human Gut Microbiome Function and Host Interactions, which is to include funding of $1.4 million over the next seven years. Dr. Peter Krell, Professor Emeritus in MCB, granted Medal of Merit for outstanding contributions to the University of Guelph
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology's Dr. Peter Krell, Professor Emeritus, is to receive a Medal of Merit during the Summer 2019 Convocation ceremonies. The Medal of Merit is one of the top faculty awards granted at the University of Guelph, and is awarded to retired professors who have made outstanding contributions to the University throughtout their career.
MCB recent doctoral graduate Sean Liston to receive Governor General's Gold Medal
The Governor General's Academic Medals honour students across Canada for their outstanding scholastic acheivements, and are among the most prestigeous awards a student in Canada can receive. A big congratualtions to Dr. Sean Liston of the Whitfield lab for his remarkable acheivement! This award will be presented to him during summer convocation.
