selecta (Meigen, 1824).– Europe.
– Tachina selecta Meigen, 1824: 377. Type data: holotype male [not female as cited by Townsend, 1941: 207] (MNHN). Type locality: Germany, Nordrhein, probably Stolberg (according to Herting, 1984: 17).
Note: Sabrosky & Arnaud (1965: 1053) reported Bessa selecta as introduced into North America and on this basis O'Hara & Wood (2004: 144) recorded B. selecta from America north of Mexico. Upon further study, we can find no evidence that B. selecta was introduced into North America. Early reports of B. selecta in North America were based on misidentifications of native Bessa harveyi (Townsend) and these reports appear to account for the catalogue entry of Sabrosky & Arnaud (1965).
