Type data: syntypes, "numerous specimens" of both sexes (1 male and 1 female syntype in SEMK) (mention by Townsend, 1931a: 167, of "Ht" from New Mexico in SEMK is not regarded as a lectotype fixation because the type series in SEMK currently consists of 1 male from Arizona and 1 female from Washington). Type localities: USA, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Washington.
– Cryptopalpus melanopygatus Bigot, 1887: cxli (also 1887: cxli, Bull. Soc. Ent. France). Type data: holotype female (BMNH). Type locality: USA, "Washington Territory."
