The OAC community mourns the passing of James ‘Jim’ McIntosh, who passed away on April 12, 2025.
Jim grew up on a farm in Tuckersmith Township and was a proud graduate of the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph, earning his BSc in 1959 and a master’s degree in Poultry Nutrition in 1961. After graduation, Jim and his wife Brenda returned to his family farm, where they built a life rooted in agriculture and community service.
“On behalf of the Ontario Agricultural College, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the McIntosh family. Jim’s deep commitment to agriculture and community was evident not only in his life’s work, but also through the family’s generous support of the McIntosh Chair in Animal Biosciences at the University of Guelph,” says John Cranfield, dean of OAC.
“His legacy will continue to shape agricultural research and education for years to come.”
A passionate poultry farmer and advocate for local agriculture, Jim played a significant role in the development of Ontario’s egg industry. He served as a Director with the Egg Farmers of Ontario and was actively involved with the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, Huron County Egg Farmers, and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26th from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter.
