Postdoctoral Fellowship in Population Medicine - Pet Ownership and Health

We are looking for an ambitious and keen postdoctoral fellow to establish an independent research program examining the effects of pet ownership on human health using primarily quantitative epidemiological methods.

Description of the Lab

Working closely with Dr. Lauren Grant, you will be responsible for setting up and leading a new research program in the Grant Lab where you will design and run a series of analyses to examine the effects of pet ownership on human health outcomes. As a more senior member of a new and growing research group, you will be expected to take on a significant leadership role, including providing mentorship to other trainees, building new networks, and developing new research areas.

General Outline of Duties 

You will be responsible for leading all research activities, including but not limited to the following responsibilities: 

  • Data collection
  • management
  • integration
  • analysis
  • Write and publish manuscripts
  • Co-supervise one or more trainees (undergraduate or graduate)

Teaching Requirement: There is no teaching requirement or guaranteed teaching involvement with this position. If eligible, you will be supported in applying for a sessional position.

Student/Employee Supervision: There are no supervision requirements. Depending on interest, you may co-supervise one or more trainees at the undergraduate or graduate levels.

Required Qualifications 

PhD in epidemiology, public health, data science, or related discipline; Strong and demonstrated quantitative data skills; Strong and demonstrated leadership experience; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Strong initiative and work ethic; Strong written communication skills.

Start Date & Duration of Appointment: January 6, 2025 to December 31, 2025 

Anticipated Hours/Days of Work (at time of posting): 7 hours/5 days 

Salary Information: $50,000 salary + $9,750 benefits (19.50% benefit rate) = $59,750 total
