Entrance Scholarships - B.A.

Alumni Entrance Merit Scholarship, College of Arts

Established by the College of Arts and the Development and Public Affairs Office. Application not required. [E0477]

Qualification(s): Student entering the B.A. program in the College of Arts in the Fall semester with the highest admission average.

Amount: One award of $1,000

December 6th Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, established by the Faculty Association, is awarded in memory of the fourteen women murdered in December 1989 at Ecole Polytechnique and is intended to attract women to a profession that is largely comprised of men. Application not required. [E0005]

Qualification(s): Female student who is a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada enrolled in the College of Physical and Engineering Science. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic performance. For continued eligibility beyond semester 1, the student must maintain a minimum of 70% cumulative average. Demonstrated financial need may also be considered.

Amount: $1,500 ($500 in each of semesters 1, 3 and 5)

Honours Mathematics or Honours Statistics Scholarship

Application not required. [E0131]

Qualification(s): Student entering the first semester level of the B.A. program who declares the intention to pursue an honours program in Mathematics or Statistics. The scholarship will be made in two installments of $250 in each of the student's first two semesters with the second installment to be conditional upon the student obtaining an average of 80% in the first semester.

Amount: One award of $500

Frederick Hung Memorial Award

The colleagues and family of the late Prof. Frederick Hung make available an entrance award to encourage students to major in Geography. Application not required. [E0320]

Qualification(s): Student entering the Bachelor of Arts (Geography Major) degree program directly from high school. The award will be given to the student who has achieved the highest mark in grade 13 Geography or its equivalent and at least an 80% average overall.

Amount: One award of $900

Amos & William Lowe Memorial Scholarship

Endowed by the late William B. Lowe of Fort Francis, Ontario. Preference will be given first to eligible students from the district of Rainy River, then from the district of Kenora or Thunder Bay, and finally from the remaining districts of Northern Ontario. Application not required. [E0158]

Qualification(s): Student entering any of the undergraduate degree programs of the Ontario Agricultural College.

Amount: Two awards of $1,250 paid in two installments of $625

Mary Alice and Marion Munn Memorial Entrance Scholarship

Established by Dr. John Munn in memory of his mother Mary Alice (Harris) Munn, who for more than 50 years sang, played, taught, led choirs, and instilled her love of music in the Ripley and Kincardine area, and his sister Marion Catherine Munn, who followed her mother's example as a singer and choir leader. The award is made in two installments, one in each of the Fall and Winter semesters of the first year of study. The second installment will be paid on successful completion of MUSC*1500 and registration in MUSC*1510. Apply when signing up for an audition for MUSC*1500 Applied Music I. Following this audition, a final round will be held within one month to select the winner. [E0418]

Qualification(s): A student entering the B.A. program intending to major in Music who best combines excellent potential in the area of vocal studies with involvement in extra-curricular music activities, particularly choir or other forms of vocal performance. In the event that two or more applicants are closely matched, preference will be given to the applicant who has the highest entrance average.

Amount: One award of $2,500

Entrance Access Awards - B.A.

Fred Hindle Bursary

Awarded in memory of Fred Hindle, O.A.C. '38, a long-time generous supporter of his Alma Mater, who at the time of his death, wanted future students to have the same opportunity for an education as he had received. This bursary is awarded with the assistance of the Ontario government's OSOTF program. This bursary is dependent on continued demonstration of financial need and successful completion of study to advance into the next year. Apply with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. Students who have applied to the University for admission will receive a Need Assessment Form for Entrance Awards from the University early in the calendar year. ACCESS AWARD [E3500]

Qualification(s): An entering O.A.C. degree student who has demonstrated financial need. Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Amount: One award of $6,000 ($1,500 annually for 4 years)

Earl B. MacNaughton Entrance Scholarships

Established by friends, faculty, staff, alumni and students of the University to honour Earl B. MacNaughton, former head of the Department of Physics and founding Dean of the College of Physical Science. Apply with a completed Need Assessment Form to Student Financial Services by April 1. Awarded in the Fall semester. ACCESS AWARD [E4172].

Qualification(s): Students with high academic standing, demonstrated financial need and entering an honours program in the College of Physical and Engineering Science. Emphasis will be given to academic achievement in high school science and mathematics Additionally, students must meet the government-mandated terms for receipt of an OSOTF award (see General Statements on Awards).

Amount: Five awards of $1,000
