The Minor program in Art Theory and Criticism offers students the opportunity to engage critically with the most significant interpretative methods art historians and critics use to analyze artwork. Courses will provide an overview of important debates in the field and of their contexts, as well as informed discussions of the issues that are raised when textuality and visuality come together. This program of study is designed as a complement to a significant number of Major specialization, and is suitable for any student wishing to broaden their knowledge beyond their Major area of study. Students wishing to combine this Minor with a Major in Art History are advised that the selection of their required courses should begin early in their degree, and that they should obtain counselling from faculty to ensure they can achieve the correct distribution.
