X. Degree Programs
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)
Biochemistry (Co-op) (BIOC:C)
Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, College of Biological Science
A B.Sc. in Biochemistry offers a multidisciplinary curriculum that gives students broad exposure to the life sciences with
specific attention paid to the physical and chemical nature of biomolecular systems. The lab-intensive experience in this
program prepares students to pursue post-graduate research opportunities in many different life science related fields. Graduates
are also positioned to be successful in obtaining entrance to a number of professional programs, as well as employment in
industry and government.
Two Streams are available. Stream A is different from Stream B in that Stream A has a double work term following academic
semester 5. The course content of semesters 1-4 is the same as that listed above for the regular Honours Program Major. Students
in the Co-op program must also take COOP*1100 in the second academic semester. The total program requirements, including the selection of electives are also the same.
Students will be expected to undertake their work terms after semester 3 and completion of course CHEM*2480. Since certain courses must be taken in a different semester from usual, consult your Faculty Co-op Advisor for assistance
with course selection.
To graduate from the Co-op program a minimum of 4 successfully completed work terms is normally required.
This major requires the completion of 20.25 credits as indicated below.
