Library and Learning Commons
Services
The Learning Commons, located on the first floor of the McLaughlin Library, brings together in one location services that enhance learning, writing, research, numeracy, data and technology at the University of Guelph.
IT Help Desk provides assistance to students, faculty and staff with IT related questions or problems.
Learning Services provides support to undergraduate and graduate students and faculty concerned with enhancing student learning and academic performance. Services include workshops, print and online resources, and individual assistance, as well as specialized services for faculty.
Library Centre for Students with Disabilities (LCSD) offers a range of services and adaptive software that enable students with disabilities to access Library as well as other information resources.
Centre for Students with Disabilities (CSD)Exam Centre is located on the Library’s second floor and contains 12 private and 2 small group rooms for tests and exams. A number of computers are equipped with adaptive technology. Scribes and readers can be arranged for individual student needs.
Library Research Help Desk and the Information Literacy work team assist students, staff and faculty in developing their information literacy skills in locating, evaluating, and effectively managing the information they need for their assignments and research.
Supported Learning Group Program (SLG) uses peer-led study session to enrich the learning experience of students enrolled in historically challenging courses including first year History, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, and Psychology among others.
Writing and ESL Services provides support to undergraduate and graduate students who wish to enhance their writing skills, as well as for those who are having difficulty writing critically and analytically, or whose first language is not English. Services include a range of programs, workshops, presentations, printed and on-line resources, and individual assistance.

The Science Commons, located on the Library’s third floor, is a one-stop learning resource centre for students in mathematics and statistics, physics and chemistry providing one-on-one help, group and individual study space.
The McLaughlin Library provides wireless internet access and has 125 laptops available for short-term loan, in addition to its 300 public workstations. Both individual and group study facilities are provided. Presentation of the non-transferable University Card is required each time a book is borrowed from the Library. This card also provides University of Guelph users borrowing privileges at most other Ontario university libraries.
