Linking Guidelines
The following guidelines should be used when linking to the University of Guelph Undergraduate Calendar. In general it is always best to provide a link to the highest level possible and allow the user to navigate to sections as required.
- Recommended Method
-
Linking to the calendar index or chapter indexes is the best way to ensure that a link will be valid across updates to the calendar content. These pages can be identified by the name index.shtml.
- Safe Method
-
Linking to manually named pages should ensure a valid link across updates to the calendar content in most situations. However, as content is modified and re-arranged there is a possibility that some of these named pages could be removed, renamed or added. These pages can be identified by names such as c10bsc.shtml.
- Discouraged Method
-
Linking to pages with automatically generated names is strongly discouraged. These names will not stay consistent across updates to the calendar content. These pages can be identified by names beginning with sec_ and containing generated numbers, such as sec_d0e6306.shtml.
NoteIf you want to link to one of these pages, please contact calendar@registrar.uoguelph.ca to request a change to a manually named page. Until the change is implemented please link to the next highest level meeting the recommended or safe methods outlined above.
