Improvements to Curriculum Management

The SIS Refresh team is excited to announce the imminent launch of the new Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM) System. The CIM System will improve workflows associated with course- and program-level curriculum changes, including updating course descriptions, creating new courses and developing new programs. It will streamline the approval process and allow integration and synchronization with Ellucian Colleague and the Academic Calendars.

Features of the System

• All course (addition, change and deletion) and program (addition, change and deletion) proposals will be proposed, reviewed, approved and stored in one centralized location.
• The system will import course information from Ellucian Colleague and program information from the Academic Calendar so that forms are pre-populated for users.
• When a change is proposed, the system will automatically flag any affected departments/programs for review.
• Users will be able to quickly absorb proposed changes based on “track changes” functionality—green lettering (new) and red strikethrough (deleted).
• Workflows will be automatically generated depending on details provided in the forms.
• The system will track where proposals are in their workflow, and users will be able to reference this tracking at any time.
• Users will be notified when it is their turn to review and/or approve proposed changes and when changes they are responsible for have been approved.
• Other users will be able to search, review and comment on proposals of relevance, better enabling cross-unit collaboration and stakeholder consultation.

Stay tuned for the CIM System launch date and related training sessions! Once launched, the forms and workflows will continue to evolve. The launch of the new CIM System is the second phase of the University’s partnership with Leepfrog Technologies. Last year, the SIS Refresh team launched the redesigned Academic Calendars through Leepfrog’s CAT platform. Finally, the team is in the early stages of implementing Leepfrog’s course outline tool (SYL) for piloting later this calendar year.
