Dr. Murrel Bauman entered veterinary practice from a farming background, completing high school and earning his DVM in 1961 as a mature student. He launched his veterinary career in Elmira, Ontario first practicing from the basement of his home before founding the Eldale Veterinary Clinic which grew into a large multi-doctor practice. Throughout his career, Murrel was respected for his dedication to and exemplary care of his rural clients in Southern Ontario. Murrel would say this scholarship is “not about him”; it’s about supporting the farming community and seizing the opportunity to provide more veterinarians with the skills needed to work in mixed rural practices, especially where the need is greatest, as in Northern Ontario. Apply during the fall call for applications from the OVC Deans Office with a statement of up to 500 words describing your experiences in Rural Community Practice including volunteer, employment, etc. opportunities. Selection will be based on the breadth of experience in Rural Community Practice in the event of two equally qualified candidates, the student with the highest program average will be selected.
Students registered in Phase 4 of the DVM program in the Rural Community Practice Stream. Preference will be given to students from the Northern Ontario Undergraduate Cohort.
