The family of Dr. McKenzie Lewis established this award in memory of their late son, a talented teacher of Classics and respected archaeologist. This award, supported also by Mac’s colleagues and friends, is intended to continue Mac’s passion for travel and first-hand encounters with Classical Antiquity by providing students from the University of Guelph with the opportunity to travel and study. Apply by November 30th to the College of Arts Awards Committee with a letter describing the travel and experiential learning opportunity as well as the expected benefits to the student’s program of study. Students seeking funding for a research trip must submit a budget relating to travel costs. Selection will be based on academic standing and the statement indicating the relevance of the experiential learning to the student’s program. In the case of a tie, the award will go to the student who, by nature of their work, will receive the most benefit from the travel in this specific case determined by the College of Arts Awards Committee. When assessing the candidates, each should be ranked in order by an impact score. The impact score assesses the degree to which the student’s program of study will be supported by the experiential learning. The recipient must have completed a minimum of 15.0 credits by the time they receive the award at the conclusion of the winter semester. This award can be held only once.
Students registered in the Classical Studies major or minor who have completed a minimum of 10.0 credits and have a minimum 75% cumulative average participating in a School of Languages and Literature experiential learning opportunity. (i.e. field-study, travel, archive, museum research).
