2021 Selected Canine Health Topics Request for Proposals
Description
The mission of the Canine Health Foundation (CHF) is to advance the health of all dogs and their owners by funding sound scientific research and supporting the dissemination of health information to prevent, treat and cure canine disease. CHF supports a One Health model as a critical tool to achieving this vision, with a multidisciplinary approach to addressing the health needs of all dogs and their people. While CHF supports a One Health approach, proposed research outcomes must benefit dogs.
The Foundation is focused on funding research in several of its Research Program Areas with an emphasis on mechanisms of disease, pathology and molecular basis of disease, epidemiology and environmental factors, and clinical application of research findings. Proposals accepted through this RFP include the following CHF research program areas: Hepatic Disease and Kidney & Urological Disease. Proposals which fall under a research program area other than aforementioned areas will not be accepted for scientific review at this time.
CHF is seeking innovative approaches to canine health in:
Hepatic Disease
This research program area supports basic science discovery and clinical research into novel diagnostics and treatment of liver disease including research into the pathophysiology of hepatic diseases, as well as the molecular and genetic basis and identification of potential therapeutic drugs that reduce the pathology associated with such diseases. Topics addressed by this program may include but are not limited to: chronic hepatitis, copper storage disease, congenital portosystemic shunts, acute liver damage, and gallbladder mucocele.
Kidney & Urological Disease
This program supports research into the pathophysiology of disease, the identification of unique/emerging risk factors for the development of renal disease, genetic/epigenetic/proteomic/metabolomic factors associated with disease development, predictors (biomarkers) of kidney damage and recovery, and identification of potential therapeutic drugs that reduce the pathology associated with disease. Topics addressed by this program area include but are not limited to: breed-related nephropathies, juvenile nephropathy, acute or chronic kidney disease, urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, urinary crystals or bladder stones, and incontinence.
Funding Availability
Both Acorn (up to $15,000 USD including 8% maximum indirect costs) and Oak (over $15,000 - $50,000 USD including 8% maximum indirect costs) grant proposals that can be completed within the budget will be accepted for review. Please contact CHF directly to discuss submission of study budgets greater than $50,000 USD.
