Description
Founded by science philanthropist and technology investor Yuri Milner and his wife Julia, the Breakthrough Prize Foundation is a charitable foundation dedicated to advancing fundamental knowledge, celebrating scientific achievement and utilizing scientific and technological innovations to improve people’s lives and inspire future generations.
For its 13th year, the Breakthrough Prize, recognized as the world’s largest science prize, will honor top scientists, handing out three prizes in Life Sciences, one in Fundamental Physics and one in Mathematics.
Eligibility
Eligibility:
- Fundamental Physics - One prize will recognize an individual or individuals who have made profound contributions to human knowledge. It is open to theoretical and experimental physicists. The prize can be shared among any number of scientists.
- Life Sciences - Three prizes will be awarded to individuals who have made transformative advances in comprehending living systems and extending human life. One of the prizes is designated for progress in understanding of Parkinson’s disease or other neurodegenerative disorders.
- Mathematics - One prize will be awarded to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the field of mathematics.
Prize
Each prize is worth $3 million.

Nominations must be submitted directly on the Breakthrough Prize website. Please also submit a copy of the full nomination and an OR-5 to research.services@uoguelph.ca.
Self-nomination is prohibited, but anyone can nominate another person.
