Proof of Concept and Clinical Trial
Description
The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) invites proposals focused on projects related to proof of concept and clinical trials. With increased investment in research through the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off, the BCRC has committed to provide research funding in two key areas that have previously had limited funding:
1. Proof of Concept – proposals to help inform whether a concept is worth pursuing as a larger, more defined funding request.
2. Clinical Trials – proposals to validate practices or technologies that have been discovered through research projects and/or to facilitate the adaptation of technologies utilized in other sectors, commodities or countries.
The purpose of this call is to fund proof-of-concept research and clinical trials that will lead to the achievement of objectives in the Canadian Beef Research and Technology Transfer Strategy and the National Beef Strategy. Leveraging producer check-off funds allocated to approved projects with other industry or government cash contributions is encouraged but not required for this call.

Eligibility
Any individual or organization (academic institution, private industry, government or not-for-profit/nongovernment organization) with the ability and/or a track record of success in carrying out research projects in areas relevant to the Canadian beef industry is eligible to apply.
Funding Availability
The BCRC has committed funding to short-term projects in the two areas identified above, with a maximum of $50,000 per project regardless of duration.

Project Duration
Project duration should be within six months to one year unless a clear rationale can be provided demonstrating the need for a longer timeframe.

How to Apply
Proposals must be prepared using the file entitled "BCRC Proposal Form – Proof of Concept" provided by the BCRC, and they must be submitted electronically to proposals@beefresearch.ca. The form, as well as instructions and guidelines for submission, can be downloaded from BCRC’s Call for Proposals webpage.
Information For Co-applicants
If you need to meet a deadline set by the lead institution for this opportunity, please ensure that you provide the Office of Research with at least five days in advance of the lead institution’s deadline to review the application or your proposed component of the project. Please be in touch with the Office of Research (contact information below) ahead of the deadline if it looks like it will be difficult for you to submit all the required documentation on time (i.e. budget, proposal, OR-5 Form).
