Canada Biomedical Research Fund and Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund - Workshop

Description

All faculty are invited to a half-day in-person workshop/brainstorming session Friday, March 31 (9:00 to 12:00) Mclaughlin Library - Rm 384 (Florence Partridge Room) to discuss potential proposals for the Canada Biomedical Research Fund (CBRF) and Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BRIF). 

In alignment with Canada's Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy, CBRF is focused on preparing Canada for future pandemics by producing life-saving vaccines and therapeutics. The CBRF is a two-stage competition.  At stage one, five research hubs were selected.  The University of Guelph is a partner on The Canadian Hub for Health Intelligence and Innovation in Infectious Diseases (HI3).  Each hub has a specific theme (HI3’s is vaccine and therapeutic development for zoonotic and respiratory viruses), and the hubs will facilitate the submission of major research grants (up to $5 M per year for 4 Years) to the CBRF. 

We’re now at Stage 2 which is an open, national call for partnered applied research, talent development and research infrastructure proposals. All proposals are expected to be multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional, and multi-sectoral, and must result in outcomes that strengthen Canada’s biomanufacturing and life sciences sector.  Applications to Stage 2 must be endorsed by one of the hubs. Endorsed notices of intent are due June 8, and full proposals September 7.
