Description

Researchers are invited to complete and submit an online research application during Egg Farmers of Canada’s (EFC) special call for full proposals. This special call is for full proposals that will be submitted for funding through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) Next Policy Framework: AgriScience Program. Following EFC’s call for full proposals, submissions will be evaluated by the Research Committee of EFC’s Board of Directors. Selected projects will be peer reviewed through the Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC). Applicants will be given the opportunity to respond to comments and questions from the peer reviewers. Projects approved for funding by EFC’s Research Committee will be submitted to AAFC by CPRC for a final decision. This special call for full proposals is in addition to EFC’s annual call for proposals.

What is AAFC’s Next Policy Framework? What is the AgriScience Program?

AAFC’s Next Policy Framework is a five-year (2023–2028) investment by federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen and grow Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector. It will replace the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, which ends March 31, 2023. The AgriScience program is a program under the Next Policy Framework that aims to accelerate the pace of innovation by providing funding and support for pre-commercial science activities and cutting-edge research that benefits the agriculture and agri-food sector and Canadians. Projects can be submitted to the AgriScience program as a cluster (a collection of research projects aligned within a sector) or as individual smaller projects. EFC intends on submitting projects in conjunction with CPRC as part of the fourth Poultry Science Cluster.

How is the Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC) involved?

CPRC  is presently administering the third Poultry Science Cluster under the Canadian Agriculture Partnership. CPRC is supported by the national poultry organizations and will submit a cluster of poultry research projects to AAFC on behalf of the poultry industry.

Eligibility

To be considered for funding, the principal investigator (PI) must work full-time at a Canadian institution or organization. There are no specifications or requirements regarding the faculty or academic status of the PI. The PI, co-investigators and/or collaborators for each research project will be evaluated holistically to assess the strength of the research team and the expertise each member brings to the project. 

Maximum Project Value

There is no minimum or maximum limit to the amount of funds a PI can request for a research project during this special call. Total amount of funds requested is taken into consideration along with other important criteria, including alignment of the project with EFC/AAFC’s research priorities and their practical application to the industry and consumers. EFC reserves the right to fund all projects in part. Full proposals with other funding sources will be given priority consideration.

Project Duration

Projects submitted to EFC to be considered for the cluster can be up to 5 years in length. Projects should begin in 2023 and end no later than 2028.
