The Kidney Foundation of Canada (KFOC)

Description

Biomedical Research Grants provide financial support to medical researchers to assist in defraying the operating costs of research, which may include the purchase of materials, supplies and equipment and the payment of laboratory assistants.

Eligibility

The KFOC defines a Nominated Principal Applicant as an individual who:

  • will be responsible for the direction of the proposed activities; and
  • will assume the administrative and financial responsibility for the grant or award; and
  • will receive all related correspondence from The KFOC.
  • Is an independent researcher (someone who is autonomous regarding their research activities (e.g. not a trainee, not a post-doctoral fellow, not a research assistant, and not under the supervision of another person, who is directing the research).
  • a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident

Note:  A Nominated Principal Applicant, Principal Applicant or Co-Applicant may not apply for or hold more than one (1) Biomedical Research Grant per year from The Kidney Foundation as an award. 

The KFOC defines a Principal Applicant is an individual who shares responsibility for the direction of the proposed activities.

Funding Availability

Up to $50,000/year. The maximal budget allowed for two and three year research grants may not exceed $ 100,000 and $ 150,000 respectively.

Grants are available for one, two or three years, commencing July 1, 2018

The Biomedical Research Grants Policies 2018 Competition, supersede all previous Kidney Foundation of Canada Biomedical Research Grants Policies. Applicants should always refer to the latest version. The Kidney Foundation of Canada may, without notice, alter the programs or terms of a grant. Any major changes will be announced immediately on the KFOC website. The Kidney Foundation of Canada reserves the right to interpret these guidelines and policies. Applicants should contact the National Director of Research or the Coordinator, Research Grants and Awards as required.

Applications must be submitted on the current forms, which are available at The Kidney Foundation of Canada’s Web site under Funding Opportunities.

The applicant must submit a PDF copy of the full application (including all signatures and addenda) by email to chris.marquis@kidney.ca.  The "Subject" line of the email should contain the following information.  Last name, First name KFOC-BRG2018 (e.g. Smith, John KFOC-BRG2018)

If you need to meet a deadline set by the lead institution for this opportunity, please ensure that you provide the Office of Research with at least five days in advance of the lead institution’s deadline to review the application, or your proposed component of the project. Please be in touch with the Office of Research (contact information below) ahead of the deadline if it looks like it will be difficult for you to submit all the required documentation on time (i.e. budget, proposal, OR-5 Form).
