This five-part online workshop series covers key elements of the research data lifecycle, from the fundamentals of file management to depositing your data in a data repository. As a U of G researcher, you’re invited to join us for one, or all of the upcoming noon hour workshops

Sessions include:

  1. Starting the Research Adventure: Fundamentals of File Management
    January 14, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)
    This session provides an overview of the best practices for file naming, folder organization, and data storage, ensuring your data remains secure and easily accessible.
     
  2. Documenting Your Research: Unlocking the Secrets of Data Documentation
    January 21, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)
    Learn how to create metadata and various types of data documentation files to ensure your data is understandable, reusable, and accessible both by future researchers and you down the road.
     
  3. Mapping Your Research Data Path: Creating a Data Management Plan
    January 28, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)
    This session will guide you through developing a living planning document to effectively manage your data from collection to sharing.
     
  4. Navigating the Research Data Terrain: Understanding Data Classification and Data Storage Options
    February 4, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)
    Learn how to classify your research data and where to store your data securely, whether on local drives or cloud storage, using the Data Classification Policy. This session will be led by guest expert Stephen Willem, chief information security officer at U of G. 
     
  5. Reaching Your Research Data Destination: Depositing Data in a Repository
    February 11, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)
    In this final session, you’ll learn how sharing your data in a repository improves your visibility as a researcher, increases citations of your publications, gives you recognition for your work, attracts new collaborations and most importantly, allows for reproducibility and verification of results.
