Description

The Early Phase Clinical Trials program provides funding to support translational research that accelerates the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease aging.

Eligibility

Applicant Eligibility:

Eligible Principal Applicants must be at or above the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent, and be affiliated with a Canada Revenue Agency-qualified donee institution located in Canada. Co-applicants and Collaborators must be at the post-doctoral level or above, and can be working outside Canada.

Applicants may appear in any role on any number of projects.

Project Eligibility: Projects must meet these conditions to be eligible:

  • Be a clinical trial(s) and/or a clinical trial sub-study(s) that accelerates the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging.
    • Projects that require only up to $200,000 over up to 18 months may also be submitted to the Rapid Response program.
    • Translational research other than clinical trials and/or clinical trial sub-studies should be submitted to the Transformational Research program or the Rapid Response program.
  • Be the development of a therapeutic and/or tool.

Maximum Project Value

A maximum of $1,500,000 per project over up to 4 years

External Deadline

Rolling Intake - Applicants to submit LOI through Weston Brain Institute online grant management system. 

Internal Deadline

Applicants can expect to receive the outcome of their LOI within ~2 months of submission.

Applicants with high potential projects will then be invited to submit a Proposal. Instructions for submitting the Proposal will be forwarded to those invited. Applicants invited to submit a full proposal after the LOI review stage is complete must immediately contact the Office of Research (research.services@uoguelph.ca) to communicate their invitation to the full proposal stage. 

Applicants must submit their full application along with signed OR-5 to Office of Research (research.services@uoguelph.ca) a minimum of 1 week prior to submission of their full application to Weston Brain Institute through the online grants management system.

How to Apply

Register as a user for the Weston Brain Institute Grant Management System. This system allows researchers to apply for various funding programs, follow the status of applications, submit any post-award information, review assigned applications and communicate with Weston.

Information For Co-applicants

If you need to meet a deadline set by the lead institution for this opportunity, please ensure that you provide the Office of Research with at least five days in advance of the lead institution’s deadline to review the application, or your proposed component of the project. Please be in touch with the Office of Research (contact information below) ahead of the deadline if it looks like it will be difficult for you to submit all the required documentation on time (i.e. budget, proposal, OR-5 Form).
