Description

The purpose of the W.K.H. Panofsky Prize is to recognize and encourage outstanding achievements in experimental particle physics. The prize is presented annually and will normally be awarded for contributions made at an early stage of the recipient's career.

Eligibility

Nominations are open to scientists of all nations regardless of the geographical site at which the work was accomplished. The prize shall ordinarily be awarded to one person but the prize may be shared when all recipients have contributed to the same accomplishment. Nominations are active for three years. The nominator does not have to be an APS member. A nominee does not have to be an APS member. Anyone except a member of the committee making the selection may submit one nomination or seconding letter for each prize or award in any given year.

Self-nominations are not accepted and APS does not award honours posthumously.

Prize

The prize consists of $10,000, an allowance for travel to the meeting at which the prize is to be awarded, and a certificate citing the contributions made by the recipient.
