Description

The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) announces the availability of three funding opportunities for Research Fellowships in Transformative Pathology. These awards have been created to increase the opportunities for training pathologists in the area of molecular diagnostic pathology in Ontario. Trainees will be located either at an Ontario hospital or at OICR, and their training program will be established in collaboration with the OICR Transformative Pathology Program.  The Transformative Pathology Fellowship has three streams:

  1. Full Fellowship (three years)
  2. Intermediate/CIP Fellowship (two years)
  3. Introductory Fellowship (six months) 

Eligibility

Full Fellowship:

  • Must hold a medical degree and be currently enrolled in a speciality education program in pathology in Ontario, or have recently completed a residency program in pathology; and/or
  • Currently certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in a field of speciality in pathology and have received an offer for a full-time faculty or equivalent position in an Ontario-based institution.

Intermediate Fellowship:

  • Applicants should be in postgraduate years 3-5; and
  • Must be accepted into a Clinician Investigator Program at their host institution.

Introductory Fellowship:

  • Applicants should be in postgraduate years 3-5; and
  • Must receive formal approval to participate in the Transformative Pathology Fellowship Program from their host institution prior to applying

Funding Availability

Full Fellowship: Successful applicants will receive between $70,000 - $110,000 annual stipend or salary and up to $40,000 research allowance per year. The maximum period of support for candidates who have secured a research clinician position in a hospital in Ontario is three years.

Intermediate Fellowship: Successful applicants will receive up to $40,000 per year to cover the costs of the Fellow’s research project.

Introductory Fellowship: Successful applicants will receive up to $20,000 per award to cover the costs of the Fellow’s research project.

How to Apply

Upon approval from the Office of Research Services, the applicant is to submit one hard copy of their application (MS Word file) with all original wet-ink signatures and one electronic copy of the application no later than 5:00 p.m. EST on December 18, 2015. The electronic copy of the application must be compiled as one document in either PDF or Word format and submitted to the OICR Scientific Secretariat at tpfellowship@oicr.on.ca (email address)by the requested deadline. Hard copies must be postmarked no later than the deadline date and should be mailed/submitted to:
