Description
The “Albert Einstein” World Award of Science was created as a means of recognition and encouragement for scientific and technological research and development. It takes into special consideration research which has brought true benefit and wellbeing to mankind.
The winner of the award is elected by the Interdisciplinary Committee, which is composed of world renowned scientists, among them several Nobel laureates.
The World Cultural Council acknowledges individuals or institutions that have made outstanding achievements in science, education and the arts by granting the "Albert Einstein" World Award of Science, the "José Vasconcelos" World Award of Education and the "Leonardo da Vinci" World Award of Arts to eminent figures whose work has had a significantly positive impact on the cultural legacy of mankind. These prizes are widely recognized in the scientific, educational and arts communities.
Eligibility
Nominees for the “Albert Einstein” World Award of Science should be eminent scientists whose achievements can serve as an inspiration for future generations. Considerations will be given to individuals or institutions in one of the Life Sciences, such as Neuroscience, Earth Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine or Chemistry; or in one of the Natural Sciences such as Physics, Mathematics or Astronomy. The prize is awarded every year.
Candidates for the awards may be selected and proposed only through the following authorities in any country:
- The President or the Prime Minister of a country
- Ministers of Science and Technology or Culture and Education
- Directors of institutes and organizations
- University leaders: Rector, President, Provost or Dean
- Members of the World Cultural Council
Prize
The prize consists of a diploma, a commemorative medal and an award cheque.

How to Apply
The Vice-President (Research) encourages nominations for this prestigious award, and will serve as nominator for those nominees recommended by the Honours and Awards Advisory Committee. If you wish to nominate a colleague or to be considered for VPR nomination:
- We recommend discussing your interest in this award with your College Research Manager and Associate Dean (Research).
- Complete the Expression of Interest document [2].
- Send the completed Expression of Interest document and a CV to research.honours@uoguelph.ca [3] and copy your College Research Manager by the internal deadline.
As this is an international prize, the University may engage the Global Excellence Initiative [5] to coordinate external review of nominations.
