Compassion and Artificial Intelligence Fellowship
Description
AMS Healthcare is inviting health professionals, educators, academics, and clinicians of all disciplines to seize the opportunity to explore and lead the transformation of the healthcare system by deepening our understanding of the various aspects of compassion through the lens of technology and better ensure that technologies are enabling of healthcare’s compassionate purpose.
The AMS Healthcare Fellowship in Compassion and Artificial Intelligence provides highly-qualified individuals a unique opportunity to apply their research and analytic talents to the critical challenge of the impact of digital technology and artificial intelligence (DT/AI) on the delivery of compassionate healthcare.
The focus of the fellowships will be on practice, education and/or research in health systems and related fields to improve patient care and enhance the education of students and practicing health professionals
These awards provide fellows with the opportunity to dedicate a portion of their time (to be specified in the application) to become immersed in this topic area and benefit from mentorship by leaders, collaborating across disciplines, while also making it possible to protect a portion of time for academic research.
Eligibility
Fellows require a sponsoring institution that will provide support and resources to the applicant, an appropriate supervisor, as well as oversight of the financial aspects of the award.
Fellows must also identify a suitably qualified mentor who will enrich this learning experience, provide advice and encourage the Fellow throughout the term of the award.
To be eligible for this award, the applicant must be either:
- An early or mid-career academic health investigator working in a CIHR eligible institution in Ontario.
- A regulated healthcare professional or an academic in a field related to/focussed on healthcare (i.e. health ethics, health law, computer scientist with an interest in health applications) in an Ontario health care organization, provincial government, academic setting or a provincial/national health professional organization in Ontario.
Preference will be given to applicants who reside in Ontario and are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, who intend to use the award towards learning opportunities at organizations located in Canada.
Additional criteria are provided on the AMS Healthcare [1] website.
Prize
Similar to the CIHR Health System Impact Fellowships, AMS Healthcare is offering eight (8) one-year fellowships of up to $75,000 to early and mid-career academic researchers and regulated health care professionals to study and develop expertise/competence in the impact of DT/AI on compassionate care.
A small honorarium is provided to each mentor and/or supervisor.
Special Notes
Please note that research activities carried out in the context of COVID-19 need to adhere to the University of Guelph COVID-19 research principles, policies, guidelines and processes as they may be updated from time to time and communicated on the Office of Research web-page [2].
