Description
The Agri-Innovation Program is an initiative from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. As part of this program, pre-commercialization research, development and knowledge transfer leading to innovative agriculture, agri-food and agri-based practices, processes, and products are supported. The agri-science Cluster is also part of this program, addressing several themes that are priorities to the industry and would request support toward several research activities across the country.
SPG has administered two research Clusters within Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Growing Forward program framework (Cluster 1: April 2010 to March 2013) and (Cluster 2: April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2018). Pulse producers in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta currently fund a significant portion of the pulse research into genetic improvement, agronomy and sustainable production, as well as end-use processing and utilization to advance value-added applications for pulses in existing and new markets. There is a continued need to increase the scope of pulse research and address the gaps that have been identified as standing in the way of continued market growth in this sector. The opportunity to leverage our industry funding with government funds will allow the pulse sector to address many of these knowledge gaps in these science Clusters over the next five years.
Eligibility
Eligible researchers include those in universities, not-for-profit research institutions and federal and provincial research organizations. Proposals involving collaboration among research institutions and funding agencies are strongly encouraged.

How to Apply
This is a two-stage application process:
- Letter of Intent
- Letters of Intent will be accepted until December 15, 2016 at 11:00 pm PST and should be sent by email to:

stoms@saskpulse.com [3] - Researchers are not required to submit their LOI to the Office of Research for approval before submission to the Sponsor. Researchers are asked to send a copy of their proposal to the Office of Research for information purposes only. An OR-5 is not required at the LOI stage. Researchers will be notified by the sponsor if they have been invited to submit a full proposal.

- Full Proposal
Only successful applicants will be notified and asked to provide a full research proposal for consideration. Those invited to submit a full proposal must submit their full proposal to the Office of Research two weeks in advance of the sponsor's deadline (March 1, 2017) with a signed OR-5. The deadline for receipt of invited proposals to SPG will be March 15, 2017.
