Description
Join the conversation to inform U of G and CIHR's future strategies for health research success.
Dr. Malcolm Campbell, Vice-President (Research); and Karina McInnis, Associate VP (Research Services) are hosting a CIHR TownHall.
Goals of the session:
- To seek input from the research community on the development of an institutional strategy and on the prioritization of tactics to support U of G researchers in achieving CIHR funding success and building the university’s reputation as a leader in health research;
- To inform the University’s key messages to take forward to CIHR as part of the agency’s current strategic planning consultations.
Key questions for your consideration:
- What are U of G’s competitive advantages in applying to CIHR at the present time?
- What are barriers to your success at the present time?
- In your opinion, what are, or could be, the most effective institutional supports to individuals submitting CIHR program and project grants?
Note: Some CIHR-funded researchers participated in a planning meeting for this TownHall. One of the ideas that arose during sessions was to consider an internal review process.- If internal peer review is offered, at what level should it be organized and offered to be most effective?
- Department
- College
- Institutional
- If an internal peer-review process is offered, would you be willing to submit a high-quality draft proposal 8 weeks before the deadline?
- Would you be willing to serve as a reviewer, including for colleagues outside of your College? [Why/why not?]
- If internal peer review is offered, at what level should it be organized and offered to be most effective?
- Is there value in securing external peer-reviews (e.g. where reviewers are offered a nominal fee)?
- Are there untapped opportunities for U of G faculty members with regard to joining CIHR Peer Review Committees?
