NSERC Alliance - Extension of Grants [2]
Description
Active NSERC Alliance Advantage (previously Option 1) awards are now eligible to request additional funding for a one-year extension period if awardees have found new opportunities as the project unfolds. This option is available only for grants under Alliance Advantage (special calls excluded) and only if the initial period of an awardees' grant was one to four years (five-year grants are excluded).
Lead awardees must apply for a funded extension in the first six months of the last year of their initial grant. If an awardee wishes to take advantage of a funded extension, they must complete it before utilizing other extensions without funding.
If an awardee wishes to request an extension with funding, their partner organization(s) must be willing to continue supporting the project and provide additional cash contributions. The original cost-sharing ratio applies. Awardees may request up to the average annual amount in the original grant.
To request an extension with additional funding, please contact the Research Services Office (RSO) at resserv@uoguelph.ca [3], with the following information:
- NSERC Alliance project title/account number
-
Amount of additional funding requested by NSERC (preserving the cost sharing ratio from the initial application) and details on cash and in-kind contributions from the partner organization(s)
- Please note, additional partner organization(s) cash contributions are subject to the University of Guelph's Full Cost of Research Policy. [4]
RSO will then contact the awardees' NSERC File Manager, copying the awardee. The NSERC File Manager will discuss extending the grant and provide instructions on how to apply.
If the awardees' initial grant includes partner organizations from the private sector, NSERC will consider the request for an extension only if the grant was awarded after July 23, 2021.
