Description
HQP students are highly skilled and talented graduate students who are engaged in research related to the agri-food and rural sectors.
Eligibility
To be eligible for an HQP scholarship you:
- Are entering into your first semester of a Master's Thesis or Ph.D. program
- Are a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or are studying under an International Visa
- You will be registered in a full-time graduate program at U of G
To be eligible for an HQP scholarship you are NOT:
- Currently registered at the University of Guelph in the program that you are applying for a scholarship (i.e. already started your program)
- A current OMAFRA employee
- Receiving another major student stipend such as an award from NSERC, OGS, SSHRC, CIHR
Funding Availability
The maximum annual allocation to students will be based on the following guidelines.
- First Year of enrolment in program:
- Master's by Thesis: $17,300 for the year from the HQP Program + $2,000 'top-up' from the supervising faculty member
- Doctoral: $21,000 for the year from the HQP Program + $5,000 'top-up' from the supervising faculty member
- Second Year of enrolment in program:
- Master's by Thesis: $17,300 for the year from the HQP Program + $2,000 'top-up' from the supervising faculty member
- Doctoral: $21,000 for the year from the HQP Program + $5,000 'top-up' from the supervising faculty member
- Third Year of enrolment in program:
- Doctoral: $21,000 for the year from the HQP Program + $5,000 'top-up' from the supervising faculty member
Special Notes
Scholarships are available for students entering thesis-based MSc and Ph.D. programs. Applicants and faculty are asked to pay careful attention to the requirements of the application.
Potential scholarship start dates for successful applicants are May 1, 2017, September 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018.

If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.
