Description
The WSIB’s mandate is to promote health & safety in the workplace, facilitate return-to-work and recovery when a work-related injury or occupational disease occurs and provide compensation and other benefits when return-to-work cannot be achieved.
The Grants Program supports research studies and training initiatives to address current and emerging issues in order to strengthen Ontario’s workers’ compensation.
The central priorities for WSIB’s 2016 Grants Program are Return-to-Work and Recovery. Examples of possible subjects include, but are not limited to:
• addressing barriers to successful return-to-work and recovery outcomes;
• integrating best practices to improve return-to-work and recovery programs;
• applying behavioural economics in a workers’ compensation system.
Eligibility
Full time university faculty.
Note: MSc or PhD students conducting research at a Canadian institution are eligible to submit a proposal as a Secondary Contact. The Primary Contact must be a researcher who agrees to supervise the student and accept accountability for grant management and performance.

Special Notes
This funding program has a two (2) step submission process. All interested parties must first submit an Initial Proposal, which will be evaluated based on the criteria outlined in the Proposal Instructions [2]. Selected candidates will be invited to submit a full Detailed Proposal.
Note: The Initial Proposal must be submitted to the Office of Research as it requires the signature of an authorized representative of the University prior to submission. As well, a completed OR-5 form will be required at the Initial Proposal stage.

How to Apply
Researcher will be responsible for couriering four (4) original signed Initial Proposals to WSIB as outlined in the Proposal Instructions [2]. Documents must be received by WSIB on or before the deadline. In addition the researcher will be responsible for emailing a copy of the Initial Proposal to the WSIB.
