Description
The Subatomic Physics Research Tools and Instruments (SAP-RTI) grants foster and enhance the discovery, innovation and training capability of researchers in the field of subatomic physics by supporting the purchase of research equipment and installations. SAP-RTI grants are awards that assist buying or developing research equipment that costs more than $7,000.
SAP-RTI grants are divided into three categories, according to the total net cost of the equipment, i.e., excluding taxes, shipping and handling. These categories are:
Category 1: $7,001 to $150,000;
Category 2: $150,001 to $325,000; and

The NOI is a mandatory step in the application process. No OR-5 form or submission to Office of Research Services is required at the NOI stage. CCV is required for Categories 2 &3 for applicants and co-applicants at the NOI stage. There is no NOI stage for Category 1.
Full Application (Categories 1, 2 &3): Sign in to the Research Portal [1] to prepare an application which must be linked to a completed NSERC Canadian Common CV [5] (CCV) for each applicant and each co-applicant. In the case of SAP-RTI – Category 2 or Category 3 applications, the CCV can be updated between the time it is submitted with the NOI and the application deadline. CCV is required for all Categories (1, 2 &3) for applicants and co-applicants at the full application stage.

A support letter from the applicant’s head of department must accompany every SAP-RTI – Category 2 or 3. Applicants for SAP-RTI Category 3 grants must include a letter of support from the Associate Vice-President (Research Services [6]), John Livernois. Researchers should work with their Associate Deans of Research to prepare and submit a draft of this letter to acclarke@uoguelph.ca [7] ahead of the internal deadline so that it may be coordinated prior to submission.
